Women's Health: The Pelvic Floor

  • Pilatesmith Santa Monica 2110 Main Street, #100 Santa Monica, CA, 90405 USA (map)

OVERVIEW

In March we celebrate women and their superwoman-ness! So Pilatesmith University is hosting a workshop on a topic that's so important to women’s health, yet not talked about very much: the pelvic floor! (Don't feel left out, fellas. We'll do a workshop on your pelvic floor one day! 😉)

The pelvic floor muscles help stabilize your core while assisting with essential functions, like going to the bathroom and sex (yes, the 's' word). They can weaken over time due to injury and/or aging, which can lead to issues like incontinence and prolapse. Just like other muscles, you can strengthen your pelvic floor to keep it strong and fend off injury. You can also use pelvic floor exercises to rehab an injured pelvic floor. It's more than just kegels, ladies!

Join Pilatesmith and Dr. Stephanie Ravalese, PT, DPT from Origin Physical Therapy for a 1-hour workshop about the pelvic floor anatomy, common symptoms and conditions of a weak pelvic floor like dysfunction, prolapse, leaking, and pain, and how to safely strengthen these muscles.

This class is part of the “Health & Wellness Essentials” track at Pilatesmith University. For more classes in this track, or to explore classes in other tracks, visit the Pilatesmith University page.
